VFX Character Sheet Builder

Maintain total character consistency across your AI production. Turn raw references into a standard 7-panel master sheet with automated background removal and neutral gray rendering.

Quick start

Build your master sheet in three moves

Character Sheet Builder is a free browser tool. It automates the tedious manual work of cropping, removing backgrounds, and aligning character views on #808080 gray.

01

Drop References

Drag your character images into the 7-panel grid. Focus on the Key Ref slots—Full-Body Front, Profiles, and Headshots—to build the best reference set.

02

Describe the Cast

Enter a detailed physical description. This gets baked into a Prompt Block that describes missing angles with precise technical vocabulary.

03

Build and Export

Export a 1920×1080 master PNG. Use this single file as your character reference in Kling, Runway, or Midjourney to lock facial and wardrobe details.

Methodology

Character Consistency

The core problem with AI filmmaking is "character drift". A master sheet solves this by providing a unified, multi-angle anchor for the model to reference.

Standardized Panels

Our layout follows VFX industry standards, ensuring the AI weights each perspective correctly during generation.

  • Full Body Anchor for build, height, and wardrobe.
  • Profiles Crucial for lateral motion and depth.
  • 3/4 Views The most common angle for cinematic dialogue.
  • Neutral Gray Prevents "environment bleed" into your character.

Background Removal

On-device AI removes distracting backgrounds instantly. Clean subject separation ensures that the AI model focuses exclusively on the character's geometry and texture.

Tip

For best results, use source images with high contrast between the character and the background. Studio-style AI renders work best.

Controls

Mastering the Sheet

Key Ref Highlighting

Prioritize the orange-bordered slots. These five angles provide 90% of the character data needed for consistent video generation.

Auto-Crop Logic

The tool automatically centers and scales your subject. If a crop feels too tight, clear the slot and try an image with more "breathing room" around the character.

Prompt Generation

Missing an angle? Use the generated Prompt Block to create the missing view in Midjourney or Flux, then drop it back into the grid.

Wardrobe Lock

Detailed clothing descriptions are essential. If your character wears a "black denim jacket," specify the material to prevent it from turning into leather or cotton in video.

Neutral #808080 Gray

Industry-standard gray ensures color accuracy. It prevents the character's skin tones or clothing colors from shifting due to environmental lighting bias.

Resolution & Aspect

The final 1920×1080 export is optimized for the reference-image buffers of Kling 3.0, Runway Gen-4.5, and Luma Dream Machine.

Professional Workflow

Production Pipelines

The Single-Ref Strategy

Don't upload multiple crops. One 1920×1080 master sheet is more efficient for AI model attention than three individual headshot references.

Iterative Consistency

Generate, drop back, rebuild. Each time you fill a missing slot, your master sheet becomes a stronger anchor for the next generation.

Midjourney --cref

Use the master sheet with the --cref flag. The multi-angle data keeps faces stable even during extreme camera movements or lighting changes.

VFX Hand-off

The sheet serves as a perfect reference for traditional VFX artists or 3D modelers if your production moves from AI into a hybrid pipeline.
