A private, twenty-week road from zero Dutch to a real CEFR A1, built the way languages are actually learned, and pointed at what comes next.
By the end of these twenty weeks you will hold a solid A1 (Breakthrough): you can greet people, introduce yourself, order in a café, ask prices and directions, talk about your family and your day, and handle the small, concrete exchanges of daily life. You will have met roughly the first thousand words of Dutch, the ones that carry about 80% of everyday speech. Because Dutch and English are close cousins, you start with a real head start.
You learn a language by using it, not by memorising rules about it. Every lesson gives you real Dutch to understand first, pulls the pattern out of what you just met, then makes you say it out loud. Grammar is a tool in service of talking, never the point.
In the Netherlands, language level is tied to inburgering (civic integration). Under the 2021 law the usual target is B1, with an A2 Inburgeringsexamen as a key milestone: five parts, Spreken, Lezen, Luisteren, Schrijven, and KNM (Kennis Nederlandse Maatschappij, Knowledge of Dutch Society). This course takes you cleanly through A1, the foundation the A2 exam is built on, and the Culture card in every week doubles as KNM preparation, so the society knowledge grows alongside the language.
Five sessions a week, about an hour each. Every week follows the same shape, so you always know what today is for:
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Input: meet the week's real Dutch and its can-do goal |
| 2 | Focus on form: the grammar drawn from Day 1 |
| 3 | Vocabulary and listening (with transcripts, for active listening) |
| 4 | Production and pronunciation: say it, record it |
| 5 | Consolidation: spaced retrieval plus a graded reading |
The course is a journey through the Netherlands. Each week is a city, and finishing it earns a stamp on your passport, from Amsterdam to Rotterdam to Maastricht and back to Amsterdam. The dashboard is your route; pick up wherever you left off.
